Players who own the Premium Edition of The Outer Worlds 2 can now play the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. While the game doesn’t let you freely change your character’s build, you do get one opportunity to respecialize. This guide will explain when and how to do it, without revealing any story details – including those from the beginning of the game.
Can you respec in The Outer Worlds 2?
You’ll be able to customize your character, but not until you complete the initial mission – which serves as a tutorial. This happens before you reach the first large, open area of the game, giving you a chance to try out your current setup and make any changes you’d like.

How to respec in The Outer Worlds 2
After finishing the initial mission and regaining control of your ship (without giving away any story details!), you’ll have a single opportunity to redistribute your character’s skill points, as shown in the image. This is the only time you can do so unless you start a completely new game.

The Outer Worlds 2 will be available on October 29th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Battle.net). You can find interviews with Obsidian’s Brandon Adler by Alex and Adam, a review by Junior, and my first impressions of the game on handheld devices – links are provided.
