A Canadian hockey team issued an apology to its fans after jokingly suggesting they shower before attending games. Fans had responded by playfully teasing the team about the suggestion.
Before going to events like concerts, games, or movies, it’s important to make sure you’re clean and fresh so you don’t bother those around you. Unfortunately, not everyone remembers this simple courtesy, which can ruin the experience for others.
The Oshawa Generals, a junior hockey team in Oshawa, Canada, have asked their fans to please shower and wear deodorant before attending games.
In an email to fans, the team asked that anyone who has been to the gym or engaged in strenuous activity that might cause body odour please shower before coming to the game.
After a humorous email became popular online, fans playfully responded at a recent game. They created signs like “I’m with smelly” and “the fans stink? How about the refs?” and many even wore shower caps as a lighthearted protest.

Oshawa Generals apologize over ‘stinky’ email
The team that finished last in the OHL has apologized for the message, jokingly asking fans if they could forget about it.
“Hey Gensnation, we took a penalty on that last one,” the team posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“It’s not our place to overstep like we did. We are sorry and hopefully we can wash this one off.”

The recent online issue has caused a divide among fans. Some believe the team’s original message was correct and that an apology wasn’t necessary. One Facebook user put it bluntly, saying, “The original message was fine. People who don’t practice good hygiene shouldn’t complain.”
One person commented on X that requesting players shower before a game wasn’t unreasonable. Another expressed regret about having to apologize for stating something that should have been said.
