Hideo Kojima has repeatedly stated that AI can be helpful for streamlining tasks and boosting efficiency, but he cautions against relying on it for creative choices. He’s maintained this view even as AI tools become increasingly popular in game development.
Kojima’s opinions come after a long-running discussion among game developers and publishers about the role of AI in creating games. Because he often examines the relationship between technology and human control in his games, people are paying close attention to what he thinks.
Kojima points to gameplay systems, not art
Hideo Kojima recently told CNN he doesn’t want to use AI to create art or graphics at his studio, Kojima Productions. However, he believes AI could be useful for improving how enemies behave and react during gameplay.

Kojima hasn’t confirmed if he’s currently using this idea in any of his games. While Kojima Productions is developing several projects, like the horror game OD and the espionage title PHYSINT, he didn’t mention which game, if any, would feature enemies powered by AI.
