Google’s latest foldable phone didn’t hold up well in a durability test by JerryRigEverything, and unfortunately, it actually exploded during the process.
Tech YouTuber JerryRigEverything tested the durability of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in a video released on October 14th. He performed his usual tests for scratches, dust, and bending, but the phone broke along a line where previous Pixel Fold models had also failed, resulting in a complete breakdown.
Despite being advertised as dustproof with an IP68 rating, Google’s foldable phone failed to keep out dust. Users reported debris getting inside the hinge, causing it to crunch – indicating the inner workings weren’t properly sealed.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold fails and catches fire during testing
During a test, the phone cracked, which caused its battery to fail and catch fire – something the tech reviewer JerryRigEverything says has never happened in more than ten years of testing phones.
A YouTuber pointed out that Google continues to place the Pixel Fold’s antenna in a weak spot near the hinge – a design flaw that has caused the phone to break in previous tests. This is the third generation of the Fold with this same vulnerability.
He stated that this was the most fragile folding phone he’d ever used. Things went from bad to worse when, after attempting to unfold it again, the battery failed. Remarkably, after ten years of testing phone durability, he’d never experienced a phone battery completely failing like this.
Last September, the tech reviewer JerryRigEverything tested the iPhone Air for durability. Many people predicted it would bend easily, but it proved surprisingly strong, only bending when a machine applied far more force than any person could.
