Gayle King intends to step down from CBS Mornings when her contract ends in May 2026, concluding a 15-year run with CBS.
I was surprised to read in Variety that Gayle King might be leaving CBS! It’s all a bit unclear right now – we don’t know if she’s looking for a different job within CBS, or if she’s moving on completely. CBS hasn’t officially said anything about her leaving, but they did release a statement saying they haven’t even had any conversations with her about her contract, which runs until May 2026. Basically, they said she’s incredibly valuable to them and they plan to talk to her about the future when the time comes.
The news anchor is leaving CBS Mornings as the network undergoes significant changes. This follows the appointment of Bari Weiss as the new editor-in-chief of CBS, after Paramount merged with Skydance Media, and comes after John Dickerson finished his 16 years with CBS Evening News.
As a big fan of news broadcasting, I was really shocked to hear about the recent cuts at Paramount. Word on the street, from people inside the company, is that CBS Mornings and the CBS Evening News might be completely canceled! And it sounds like CBS Saturday Morning is in for some major changes as well. Gayle King possibly leaving is just the latest piece of this whole, pretty dramatic situation.
I’ve been a fan of Gayle King at CBS News ever since she first appeared on CBS This Morning back in 2011. It’s been amazing to watch her career grow with the network, and I really admire her dedication – she stayed with the show even when it evolved into CBS Mornings in 2021! Now, I love watching her co-host with Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil; they make a great team.
