Spiders Studio, known for creating role-playing games like GreedFall and Steelrising, has announced it is closing down. This confirmation follows reports in French media. Sadly, this means their recently released game, GreedFall: The Dying World, will be their last. Spiders Studio was founded in 2008 and spent the last 18 years focusing on RPGs, also including titles like The Technomancer and Bound By Flame.
Nacon, a French publisher, faced financial difficulties and entered insolvency proceedings in February. Spiders, a game development studio Nacon acquired in 2019 (when it was known as Bigben Interactive), also filed for insolvency last month. According to French gaming news site Origami, Nacon was unsuccessful in finding a new owner for Spiders as part of its efforts to reorganize its finances.
Okay, so things are really bad over at Spiders, the studio behind games like Steelrising. The French video game workers union, Le Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) – they represent some of the people who work there – just put out a statement saying Nacon basically deliberately ran the studio into the ground. They’re calling it ‘first-degree murder’ – a pretty strong statement, but they’re claiming Nacon’s management planned this liquidation, it wasn’t some accident. It’s a really upsetting situation, and the union is clearly furious about how Nacon handled everything.
Spiders’ confirmation message in full can be found below.

Hello everyone,
First off, we apologise for the silence over the past month – it’s been a while.
Let’s get straight to the point: We’ve received confirmation that Spiders is closing down after a period of uncertainty.
What does this mean for the future? Simply put, the company is closing down and will stop operating immediately. The previously announced downloadable content will still be released through Nacon, but after that, there will be no further activity.
We’re sad to share this news, but we want to express our sincere gratitude for all your support over the years.
For any help with your games or if you experience problems, please reach out to Nacon directly, as we are no longer able to provide support.
Hi everyone,
We’re sorry for the lack of updates over the past month. We wanted to get straight to the point: After a long wait, we’ve received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
