To build excitement for the upcoming Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Nintendo has added the highly-rated Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance to the Switch 2’s collection of classic GameCube games. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will be able to play it.
Path of Radiance, originally released in 2005, was praised for its compelling and mature story, and for bringing the Fire Emblem series into 3D. The game takes place in the world of Tellius and centers on Ike, a mercenary, and his allies as they embark on a quest to rescue a princess and protect the kingdom of Crimea from an invasion by Daein.
Path of Radiance is a strategy RPG, similar to other Fire Emblem games, where battles are fought through turns. If a character is defeated, they’re gone for good – a feature called permadeath. A follow-up game, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, came out for the Nintendo Wii in 2007.
Since it launched last year, the GameCube Classics collection has been expanding, and now features popular titles like Super Mario Strikers, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and F-Zero GX. These games look even better than the originals thanks to improved resolution, and Nintendo offers a wireless controller modeled after the classic GameCube controller for a truly nostalgic experience.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is planned to be released sometime later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been announced. It was first shown in September 2025, and the initial trailer suggests the game might take place in the same world as the 2019 title, Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
