It’s been nearly a week since the Grammys, and some older, prominent men are still upset with Billie Eilish. Meanwhile, she’s likely relaxing and enjoying her award, as well as being one of the few stars that night to speak out about a political issue. Kevin O’Leary, known from Shark Tank and Marty Supreme, publicly criticized Eilish on Fox News, saying celebrities should “just entertain” and stay silent on controversial topics. Eilish’s brother and musical partner, Finneas, quickly defended her on February 7th, using Threads to point out that many of the outraged critics are powerful older men whose names appear in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. He didn’t mention O’Leary specifically, but noted O’Leary’s dismissal of the scandal itself. Actor Mark Ruffalo joined the online debate a few hours later, telling O’Leary to be quiet. He criticized O’Leary for freely offering opinions but then attacking a genuine artist for expressing a widely resonant message. Ruffalo even jokingly referred to O’Leary’s role as a vampire in Marty Supreme. Essentially, this situation highlights how Threads is becoming a popular platform for celebrities to publicly call each other out.
