An animated series based on the popular video game Final Fantasy IX was originally announced in 2021 by Cyber Group Studios, a French animation company. After Cyber Group Studios closed earlier this year, production of the anime has resumed at a different studio, with plans to release it in 2028.
According to the latest issue of Écran Total, a French magazine focused on the film and TV business, Euro Visual will now be responsible for the anime series following the shutdown of Cyber Group Studios. LMel, Koln, Luciola, Théa, Fala, and Doc, the children of the legendary Bibi, are the last of the dark mages from across the four continents. They now live peaceful lives in the city of Alexandria, protected by its friendly, though often curious, citizens. However, their tranquility is about to be shattered. Koln discovers Mel frozen like a statue in the inn where he works, and they begin to wonder if this is the result of a dark legacy left by their father.
Mel, Kolm, Luciola, Théa, Fala, and Doc are the children of the legendary hero Bibi and the last remaining black mages in the world. They currently enjoy a peaceful life in the city of Alexandria, protected by its kind, though often inquisitive, citizens. However, their tranquility is about to be shattered. One day, Kolm finds Mel frozen and motionless at the inn where he works, leading him to wonder if a dark fate from their father’s past has finally found them.
The show will be a 2D animated series for kids ages 6-13. There will be thirteen episodes, and each one will be about 22 minutes long.
The storyline details align with a leak from earlier this year, revealing information about the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children anime project when it was in development at Cyber Studios Group. This leak came from production materials shared online by former employees after the company closed. It appears the current production team is continuing with the same ideas that were originally developed.
You can now play Final Fantasy IX on a variety of platforms, including PlayStation 4 (and PlayStation 5), Xbox One (and Xbox Series X|S), Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Steam, and the Xbox Store for PC. We also have helpful guides available for FF9 right here.
