FF14’s Evangelion Collab Trailer Features Strange Copyright Restriction

Final Fantasy 14 fans received a huge amount of new details today during the keynote presentation at the North American Fan Festival 2026, which revealed the game’s next expansion.

A major highlight of the event was the announcement of a new series of alliance raids based on Neon Genesis Evangelion. These raids will be available with the Evercold content update, which isn’t expected until January 2027 at the earliest. What makes this collaboration so remarkable is its size and the fact that Square Enix doesn’t own the Evangelion intellectual property. This also creates a slightly awkward situation for content creators and streamers.

Shut Up And Mute The Audio, Shinji

That trailer is likely okay regarding Square Enix’s copyright, but be careful not to use anything that belongs to Studio Khara. The music in the trailer isn’t owned by Square Enix, so if you use any of it, you’ll need to remove the audio first.

You have until July 31, 2026, to remove or change the music. Also, Square isn’t responsible if YouTube takes down videos using the music before that date – which makes sense, since Square has no control over YouTube.

So, I just saw a heads-up about the new alliance raid trailer. Apparently, it’s got some music in it that Square Enix doesn’t actually own the rights to. That means if we’re making videos or streaming the trailer, we need to mute the sound during the trailer part by the end of July 2026 to avoid any copyright issues. Just a friendly reminder to keep things safe!

I’m curious to see how Square will handle copyright issues as details emerge about the Neon Genesis Evangelion events. I expect composer Masayoshi Soken will likely create original, Evangelion-inspired music for the in-game content and possibly future promotional videos, which would be a smart way to address these complex requirements.

Just a quick heads-up: I’m not sure why anyone would focus on that short song from the reveal video—it’s mostly just a cool image and logo—but if you do, you might run into issues in August.
