The Far Cry series has had its share of successes and failures, but it consistently delivers memorable villains. While many fans consider Vaas Montenegro from Far Cry 3 to be the best, each antagonist offers a unique challenge and personality.
It’s been a few years since the last major Far Cry game – Far Cry 6 came out in 2021. However, a new installment is currently in development, though Ubisoft hasn’t officially announced it yet. We can expect the series to return at some point.
Fans are currently debating who should play the villain, and they haven’t been able to agree on a single choice.
A Reddit user recently shared leaked audio from the upcoming Far Cry 7, sparking a discussion about potential villains. Many fans recalled past rumors suggesting Cillian Murphy – now an Academy Award winner – was once considered for the role.
I was reading the comments, and someone brought up how there were rumors about Cillian Murphy playing the bad guy a while back. A lot of people said they would have loved that, but they’re worried about it after how they handled Giancarlo Esposito in the last game. Basically, they’re saying they don’t have high hopes for the next one if that’s how things are going.
“I thought he was rumored to be the main character. Damn, that’s even better,” another added.
Many people had different ideas about who it would be, and one person specifically predicted Antony Starr, saying they were willing to bet on it.
Some people aren’t confident the next villain will be as interesting as they’d like. One person pointed out that of all the games featuring celebrity actors, only Cyberpunk really used them well, and even did so in two instances!
Since the next Far Cry game hasn’t been officially announced yet, it’ll probably be a while before we can actually play it. While there’s a lot of potential to make the next installment better than recent ones, simply having a well-known actor or personality involved won’t be enough to win fans back – the game really needs to be good.
