EA Sports Trademarks “FC The Grounds” Name For New Open World Feature in FC 27
Okay, so I just saw this online – apparently EA registered a trademark for something called “FC The Grounds.” It looks like they’re planning to use it for the open-world mode they’re working on for FC 27. I checked it out myself on Justia Trademarks, and the trademark was registered on January 23rd, 2026. Pretty interesting stuff, could be a big part of the new game!
As a fan, I’ve been checking out the logo details, and it’s really cool! It features the letters “FC” designed in a unique, tilted triangle shape. There’s also a smaller triangle on the left side, and underneath all that, it says “THE GROUNDS” in a stylish font. It’s a really eye-catching design!
This explains what the logo looks like: it’s the triangular FC logo positioned next to the text “THE GROUNDS”.
Players aren’t surprised to hear about this mode. A report from FGZ in 2025 revealed that EA had been working on it for a while.
FC The Grounds will likely be a lot like the open-world hubs in games like NBA 2K (The City) and WWE 2K (The Island). While those games have similar features, this would be a first for an EA Sports title.
EA Sports is designing The Grounds with diverse areas for players to discover. These areas will feature soccer fields for both fun matches and competitive games. Each area will be themed after a country with a strong soccer tradition, offering a variety of unique environments and locations.
As of now, we’re still learning what else “The Grounds” will offer. While we expect things like mini-games, shops, and social interactions beyond just playing soccer, it’s already clear this is a significant evolution for the game series.
