Funcom revealed that a significant update (version 1.4) and a new downloadable content pack, “The Water Wars,” are coming to their open-world survival game, Dune: Awakening, on May 19th.
Update 1.4 adds two new areas to the world map, along with more Landsraad Missions and other content. The Water Wars DLC, which concludes the Season Pass, introduces building pieces and cosmetic items themed around water shipping.
I’m so excited – Dune: Awakening is finally out on PC through Steam! And the best part? It’s coming to PlayStation and Xbox later this year too. I’ve already gotten a sneak peek at the beginning of the game, you can check out my preview here.
Funcom has released Update 1.4 for Dune: Awakening, along with new downloadable content. You can learn more and watch the trailer below.
Funcom announced today that a major update, version 1.4, is coming to Dune: Awakening on May 19th. Dune: Awakening is a survival game set in the world of Dune, drawing inspiration from both Frank Herbert’s novels and the recent popular film series.
Since its release on June 10, 2025, Dune: Awakening has attracted over 189,000 players on Steam at the same time. The game has also been significantly updated more than ten times, with two new story additions, several new maps, and a large overhaul of the endgame content in Chapter 3.
Update 1.4 adds two new areas to the game’s overworld map – including a Testing Station that gets harder as you progress – and more Landsraad Missions, continuing the story from Chapter 3. You’ll encounter The Water Shippers in the abandoned Harkonnen tech center, Wind Pass, or confront the cunning Dr. Jalanta in the hidden lab within The Old Quarry Testing Station.
This update introduces the ‘Water Wars’ DLC, which adds new building materials and cosmetic items inspired by the Water Shippers – the powerful group that dominates the water trade on Arrakis. This DLC completes the Season Pass, offering a unique set of items themed around the Water Shippers.
Dune: Awakening’s Update 1.4 focuses on improving how players interact with the game, rather than adding new story elements. Funcom is prioritizing features players have asked for, and plans to release the next part of the story in a future update.
So, Funcom just dropped update 1.3.20 for Dune: Awakening, and honestly, it’s a huge win for us players! They finally let you choose whether you want to play with PvP enabled or not. That means I can enjoy all the endgame stuff without worrying about getting constantly attacked, which is awesome. It’s great to see they’re really listening to what we want and building the game around our feedback, like they’ve been doing with most of the updates.
Availability
The free Dune: Awakening Update 1.4 launches on May 19th. If you want even more content, the Water Wars DLC is available for $9.99, or you can get it as part of the Season Pass for $24.99 / €24.99.
