Dune 3 IMAX 70mm tickets sold out amid new TV spot release
The third Dune movie is off to a great start with fans, as tickets for IMAX 70mm screenings quickly sold out. These special, limited-showings at select theaters were completely booked within hours (according to SFFGazette).
Tickets went on sale for the film’s opening weekend, which will run from December 17th to 20th, 2026. Initially, screenings will be limited to a select number of IMAX theaters in North America and London.
As a big movie fan, I was trying to snag tickets, and it was crazy! Each theater only did one showing a day, which meant they sold out almost instantly. Seriously, within hours everything was gone. But the good news is, they’re saying they’ll add more screenings soon, so there’s still hope!
Demand is increasing as a new TV commercial for the film is released. The commercial features new scenes and showcases the film’s impressive scope, as well as offering another glimpse of the main characters, including Anya Taylor-Joy in her role as Alia Atreides.
Director Denis Villeneuve shared that he filmed a large portion of the third movie using 70mm film and IMAX cameras. He chose to film the desert scenes digitally, though, because he preferred the stark, raw look that digital IMAX provides. He believes this combination creates the most immersive cinematic experience.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-written with Brian K. Vaughan, the next film adapts the novel Dune Messiah. It will be the final movie in the trilogy. Currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, early IMAX 70mm showings have already sold out, demonstrating strong excitement from fans.
