Doki Doki Literature Club is no longer available on the Google Play Store. The game’s creators have acknowledged the removal and disagree with Google’s explanation for why it was taken down.
Doki Doki Literature Club started as a free game that seemed like a lighthearted anime dating sim where you join a school’s literature club, write poetry, and get to know the other members. But it doesn’t stay that way for long – the game quickly transforms into a psychological horror experience dealing with difficult topics like mental health and trauma.
I was totally hooked on this indie game – it was so clever, constantly messing with the game itself and surprising you with unexpected twists. It really felt different from anything else I’d played, and it’s been super popular! But then, out of nowhere, it got pulled from the Google Play Store. They said it was because of how it handled some sensitive topics, which was a real bummer.
Doki Doki Literature Club Dev responds to Google Play removal
Immediately after the game was taken down, the Doki Doki Literature Club team released a statement explaining their goals for the game and how they hoped it would affect players.
A statement regarding the removal of DDLC from the Google Play Store:
— Serenity Forge (@SerenityForge) April 9, 2026
The developers of DDLC say the game has resonated with players globally because of its honest and impactful portrayal of mental health, making people feel seen, understood, and less isolated in their own struggles. They emphasize the game’s handling of difficult and sensitive topics.
They stated they are working hard to get the game back on the Google Play Store. They’re also exploring other ways to make the game available on Android devices, so as many players as possible can enjoy it.
The developers confirmed the game remains available on most platforms, such as iOS, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.
For now, however, the focus is on getting the game back on Android in whatever way they can.
