The second season of the ‘Dexter’ revival will feature the New York Ripper – or the person everyone believed to be the notorious serial killer, according to showrunner Clyde Phillips.
Throughout the ‘Dexter: New Blood’ season, fans constantly speculated about the identity of one mysterious character: the New York Ripper. (Be warned, spoilers follow!)
Although we never see the Ripper directly, the show reveals he killed his victims with a long pole equipped with a hooked blade – a weapon later found among the possessions of Leon Prater. Even though the murders ended years ago, the Ripper continues to haunt those who survived by making disturbing phone calls. Detective Claudette Wallace, who first investigated the case, remains deeply affected by it.
Okay, so at the end of the first season, after I took out Prater and grabbed those files, I left a little ‘gift’ for the police – a file on the New York Ripper. I put the name ‘Don Framt’ in there, but honestly, I wasn’t even sure if that was a real name or another fake one. But the showrunner, Clyde Phillips, just said Season 2 is finally going to dig into who Don Framt actually is, so we’re going to get some answers!
New York Ripper story confirmed for Dexter Resurrection Season 2

On the November 18th episode of the Dark Passengers podcast about Dexter, Clyde Phillips discussed Don Frampt and hinted at what might happen with the character in the future.
People online were buzzing about Don Frampt,” he explained, mentioning the many fan theories circulating – some speculated he was Cody, Dexter’s stepson, while others thought he might be Jonah Mitchell, the son of the Trinity Killer.
“It kinda prompted us to think more about it. And… he’ll be in the second season.”
This doesn’t prove Don Frampt is the New York Ripper, or how involved he’ll be, but it does confirm the story will pick up where Season 1 left off.
A few months before the season aired, showrunner Clyde Phillips discussed Season 2 on the Dissecting Dexter podcast. He explained they had a major villain planned for the entire season, along with smaller, self-contained villains appearing each week.

The smaller-scale criminals Dexter has documented are probably his other targets, but it’s unknown if the main villain will be the Ripper. It’s possible they’re holding the Ripper back for the final episodes and introducing a completely new antagonist instead.
There’s been speculation among fans that Bryan Cranston, known for his role in Breaking Bad, might portray The New York Ripper, but there’s been no official confirmation yet.
We’re still a ways off from seeing the new season. Although filming for Season 2 will start this summer, it likely won’t be on TV until late 2026.
