Damon Weathers, from Legacy Effects, explained that the robotic helpers in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude serve a similar purpose to Alfred Pennyworth for Batman. The new Superman movie, starring David Corenswet, is the first film in the newly launched DC Universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel, currently titled Man of Tomorrow, will arrive in 2026, followed by a Supergirl movie, continuing the DCU story.
Weathers described the robots as Superman’s essential support team, always ready to assist him. He likened them to a dependable sidekick, like Alfred to Batman, explaining that Superman relies on them for help with specific tasks and challenges.
This robotic helper is Superman’s constant companion, assisting him when he’s hurt and helping with repairs. It’s like they’re his all-purpose support system – similar to how Alfred supports Batman.

The robots that protect and operate the Fortress weren’t created for the 2025 Superman movie. According to the art book, their design was heavily inspired by the All-Star Superman comic book by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely.
What Makes Superman’s Robots Like Alfred Pennyworth?

Similar to how Batman relies on Alfred Pennyworth for support and advice, Superman has his robots. They provide him with assistance and help him recover when he’s injured. Interestingly, these robots also serve as a link to Superman’s biological parents, just like Alfred connects Batman to his past.
Considering what we know about Superman’s home planet, Clark Kent doesn’t automatically crave the same kind of parental connection the robots offer – unlike Bruce Wayne and Alfred – but a bond still exists.
Alfred began serving the Wayne family before Bruce was born and became a father figure to him after his parents died. Bruce often sees Alfred not just as a parental figure, but also as a connection to his mother and father, allowing him to learn about them even after they were gone.
For the robots, this connection is especially important, as they’re the only way Clark can access information about, or hear from, his biological parents. It’s also intriguing to note that the parallels between them seem to run deeper than what was initially detailed in the art book.
