has claimed DC Comics’ top spot over one of the most iconic eras in comic book history.
According to PopVerse, DC Comics’ Absolute Batman collection, created by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, has achieved a significant sales milestone. It has outsold Snyder’s earlier Batman run from the New 52 era, despite the impressive performance of that series – Batman #1 sold over 225,000 copies in 2011, and every issue consistently sold at least 100,000 copies.
Despite everything, Absolute Batman #1 was a huge success, selling over 400,000 copies in its first six weeks. The first issue was widely available, making it easy for fans to get a copy. Plus, Absolute Batman #1 has consistently sold at least 300,000 copies of each issue, proving it continues to be popular with readers.
DC Comics Addresses Absolute Batman’s Wildly Successful Sales
DC Comics’ Chris Conroy remembers being stunned by the incredible sales of Absolute Batman #1. He said it took them hours of checking old records to confirm they had surpassed previous sales highs.
Conroy explained that the recent change in the office atmosphere has been very noticeable, strengthening their confidence in their creative direction and the choices they’ve made. He believes this has opened up new opportunities, leading to excellent work from their team and collaborators.
So, Scott Snyder, one of the writers on Absolute Batman, was talking about how surprised they were by the book’s success. He and the artist, Nick Dragotta, honestly didn’t think it would blow up the way it did. That’s why he was pushing it so hard – because even though it’s a different version of the Batman story, it is a #1 issue, and that’s a big deal!
Synder explained he’d hoped the comic would find a stable, moderate level of success, similar to Detective Comics, and last long enough to tell a compelling story. He admitted that the actual level of success has been surprisingly huge and, at times, even a bit overwhelming for him and the creative team.
The Absolute Universe series has been incredibly popular since it launched in 2024. Specifically, Absolute Batman has been a huge hit, appearing in 15 of the top 31 best-selling book spots. Although a Deadpool/Batman team-up collection reached number one, the impressive number of Absolute Batman titles on the list clearly shows just how successful that series has been.
Absolute Universe fans are getting ready for some major changes! Not only is the series promising exciting new developments, but it’s also gearing up for its first big crossover event. While details are still under wraps, fans can expect these things to happen soon.
