It’s common for comic book fans to see characters from different companies team up, like the recent collaboration between comics and Sonic the Hedgehog, or the one coming up with another company. However, it’s much less frequent for these crossovers to expand beyond just comics, and that’s exactly what will happen when DC and All Elite Wrestling begin their crossover event this month.
Besides releasing a crossover comic book series, they’re also planning live events to connect AEW with DC KO, DC’s new crossover storyline. DC KO involves DC Universe characters competing to determine who is strong enough to face Darkseid.
What is the DC/AEW comic book about?
DC x AEW is a short comic book series spanning two issues. It’s written by Steve Orlando, illustrated by Travis Mercer, and features cover art by Lucas Meyer.
The official description of the comic is as follows:
This incredible story brings together the best of AEW – including Mercedes Moné, Will Ospreay, Darby Allin, Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, “Hangman” Adam Page, “Timeless” Toni Storm, Willow Nightingale, Orange Cassidy, and Kenny Omega – with iconic DC Super Heroes like Aquaman, Batman, Nightwing, Green Lanterns Guy Gardner and John Stewart, Hawkgirl, Zatanna, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn. They must work together to find the Big Galactic Belt and stop a huge disaster from happening.
DC is planning special comic book covers with an AEW theme. This is part of a collaborative promotion called DC KO.
How are DC and AEW teaming up in real life?
At New York Comic Con next weekend, there are two DC/AEW events. First, on Friday…
Friday, October 10 at 5 p.m. ET – Javits Center, Room 409: Tony Khan, the CEO, GM, and Head of Creative for AEW, will be joined by former AEW Champions Jon Moxley and Swerve Strickland, along with “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy, Willow Nightingale, comic book writer Steve Orlando, artist Travis Mercer and moderator Frankie Smith. They will participate in a special panel discussion titled “Heroes, Villains, Spaces In-Between: Pro Wrestling and Comic Storytelling.” The panel will explore the connections between professional wrestling and comic book storytelling, specifically within AEW.
And then, on Saturday…
Saturday, October 11th at 3 p.m. Eastern Time – Javits Center, DC Comics Booth : Come meet AEW wrestlers Jon Moxley, Willow Nightingale, Swerve Strickland, and Orange Cassidy, along with DC’s Steve Orlando, Lucas Meyer, and Travis Mercer! They’ll be signing copies of a special preview comic. To get a wristband for this signing, visit the DC Booth on Saturday morning between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ET.
So, everything’s building up to the Live Gear pay-per-view on November 22nd – it’s an AEW special, and DC is presenting it. I’m really excited to see what goes down!
The cross-promotional efforts will continue through 2026.
