Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for the ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ series, shared with TopMob that it’s unsettling how the storyline involving Mayor Kingpin in Season 2 mirrors events happening in the real world.
The latest episodes begin with Daredevil, also known as Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox), evading the police. After a villain, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, has made superheroes illegal in New York City, he’s using a special task force to enforce the new rules like a personal army. Importantly, he’s arresting anyone who publicly opposes him, even if they aren’t costumed heroes.
Daredevil then leads a secret fight against Kingpin, working with Karen Page to reveal his schemes and the widespread corruption plaguing the city.
Dario Scardapane, the showrunner, and Sana Amanat, the executive producer, recently talked about how the second season of Daredevil: Born Again unexpectedly ended up mirroring current events.
Dario Scardapane says there was “no way of knowing” that Daredevil: Born Again would reflect real world
Dario Scardapane and Sana Amanat discussed with me how the upcoming season of #Daredevil: Born Again mirrors current events in a surprisingly unsettling way.

TopMob questioned Scardapane and Amanat about whether the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again would resonate with viewers due to its similarities to current events. The two explained that any connections to real-world headlines were coincidental and not intentional.
That’s a thoughtful question about whether this feels like a release. We started this project a year and a half ago, so we couldn’t have predicted how much it would mirror current events. Seeing things we explored in comics ten years ago, or screenplays just eighteen months ago, appear on the news is unsettling. Whether it’s cathartic… that would be great, but it’s difficult to say. It’s a complex question.
Scardapane believes viewers will find Daredevil more relatable now that he’s leading the fight against injustice.
He explained that this season features a character who was previously underestimated, now becoming a central figure for many. This is the first time Daredevil has been shown leading a rebellion, which is a compelling new direction. It presents a lot of complex themes and ideas for the audience to explore.
Amanat explained that the second season of Born Again will be similar to certain Marvel Comics storylines, portraying its characters and events as if they were happening to ordinary people.
She pointed out that Marvel excels at showcasing the potential within ordinary people, as their characters are designed to be relatable and everyday individuals.
Marvel stories have always, at their heart, been about striving for important things – like truth, peace, justice, and the strength that comes from people working together.
