I was really happy to hear from Will Powers, the marketing director for Crimson Desert, about how they’re handling the game’s business model. He basically said they’re aiming for a full, premium experience – meaning you buy the game and that’s it – rather than a game that constantly tries to get you to spend more money with tons of microtransactions. It’s a huge relief to hear, honestly!
In a February 16th YouTube podcast called Dropped Frames, Powers discussed how the game will be monetized when it releases. CohhCarnage, the podcast’s co-host, specifically asked about the game’s plans for making money.
Crimson Desert dev rules out cosmetic cash shop
Responding to the question, Powers was clear about the studio’s intentions for Crimson Desert.
Powers explained that the game is a one-time purchase, but clarified it’s not entirely free of microtransactions. While there aren’t any at launch, there will be pre-order bonuses, and anything offered will be purely cosmetic items.

He explained that the game won’t have a store where players can buy cosmetic items with real money. The focus is on providing a complete, enjoyable experience with the initial purchase, rather than relying on small, ongoing transactions.
“This is a premium experience, that is the transaction. Full stop.”
Crimson Desert will launch on consoles and PC on March 19, 2026. It takes place in the same world as Pearl Abyss’ popular online game, Black Desert Online, which allows players to buy items and cosmetic upgrades using real money.
TopMob recently played Crimson Desert at Gamescom 2025 and was very impressed with the game, describing it as an epic adventure similar to The Witcher.
