A dedicated World of Warcraft player painstakingly recreated a famous game map using the game’s new housing feature, and the outcome is incredibly impressive.
The Counter-Strike map Dust 2 is legendary – almost everyone who plays the game knows it. It’s been the backdrop for countless victories and defeats, and players have memorized every detail. Meanwhile, the new player housing feature in World of Warcraft, introduced with The War Within, lets players customize their own personal space. While many decorate with furniture, one creative player went above and beyond, building an entirely new game within their housing instance.
WoW player rebuilds Counter-Strike’s Dust 2 in player housing
A World of Warcraft player named woweden impressively rebuilt the popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive map Dust 2 within the game, using only in-game items. They named their creation “void gloom” and meticulously recreated key features like the long pathway, mid section, crates, and other details. The impressive recreation earned praise from fans of both games, and even received a “GGWP” (Good Game, Well Played) response from the official Warcraft Twitter account, who jokingly asked where the B site – a key location on Dust 2 – was located.
The building process was incredibly frustrating. From the start, woweden found the space too cramped, forcing them to constantly find creative solutions. Things like carpets and stones wouldn’t stay in place, and objects mysteriously rotated on their own. They jokingly said they quit out of frustration around 40 times a day, but honestly, that probably wasn’t an exaggeration given how difficult it was.
Woweden said this was the most challenging housing design they’d ever created, and the final result certainly lives up to that claim. The images show a remarkably detailed recreation that feels instantly familiar to anyone who remembers the original.
I built this thing on the European servers, and it’s located at ‘void gloom’. If you want to check it out, Woweden has opened it up for visitors – you can find their Battle.net tag in their bio to see the build for yourself.
