College apologizes after AI speaker causes chaos and ruins graduation ceremony

An Arizona college has apologized to its students after an artificial intelligence system made mistakes while announcing graduate names at a recent ceremony.

Graduation is a huge milestone for many people. After years of dedication, long hours, and likely some challenges, it’s a special occasion worth sharing with loved ones.

When you finally walk across the stage to receive your diploma, you’ll want everything to go smoothly, so make sure there are no problems beforehand.

Glendale Community College in Arizona recently went viral for using AI to announce graduates’ names as they walked across the stage. Unfortunately, the AI didn’t quite work as planned, often saying the names at the wrong moments and out of sync with the students who were actually receiving their diplomas.

Students who were initially misidentified by the AI system were given another chance to walk across the stage, this time with a person announcing their names. The audience responded with boos when the president explained that the AI was responsible for the error.

Grace Reimer, a student who participated, shared with AZ Family that the apology given at the event “didn’t feel genuine and came across as if they weren’t truly concerned.”

Glendale Community College isn’t the only school facing issues right now. A high school in Maine recently gained attention after mistakenly serving students baked clay during a fundraising dinner.

They apologized for that, stating it was purely accidental and not even part of an elaborate prank.
