CIA is a CBS television show that aired from February 23rd to May 18th, 2026, and has already been renewed for a second season. Created by Dick Wolf, the show is a spin-off of the popular FBI series and follows the dynamic between Colin Glass, a rebellious CIA agent played by Tom Ellis, and Bill Goodman, an FBI agent who strictly follows the rules, portrayed by Nick Gehlfuss.
Bill and Colin team up in a surprising alliance to tackle domestic terrorism within the United States. The show also features appearances by familiar FBI characters like Jubal Valentine (played by Jeremy Sisto), Ian Lim (James Chen), Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym), and Isobel Castille (Alana de la Garza).
Similar to shows about the FBI, the new series focuses on how cases are handled step-by-step. But unlike those FBI shows – or the ones created by Dick Wolf – this series really emphasizes the characters, specifically the growing relationship between Bill and Colin. It shows how their unique abilities complement each other and allow them to work well as a team.
Throughout the first season, Bill and Colin, working at the CIA station in New York City, successfully recovered a stolen weapon, caught a smuggler, and uncovered a terrorist scheme – all in just 12 episodes. Now that season one is complete, fans can look forward to the confirmed second season of CIA.
CIA Season 2 Has Already Been Confirmed By CBS
Following strong initial ratings, CIA was picked up for a second season in March 2026. Paramount reported that 8.4 million people watched the premiere across streaming and cable within its first week, and the following two episodes also performed well.
While ultimately a straightforward choice for Paramount, the future of the show CIA was once uncertain. The production faced difficulties from the beginning, including a change in leadership. Initially, David Hudgins, who ran FBI: Most Wanted, was set to be the showrunner, but he was later replaced by Warren Leight, known for his work on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and SVU.
Leight also left the show and was succeeded by Mike Weiss, who was the showrunner for FBI. Initially, the series was planned to be called FBI: CIA and have a close connection to FBI. However, it ultimately became simply CIA, a show that stands more on its own.
When Will CIA Season 2 Release?
We don’t have a confirmed release date for season 2 of CIA yet. However, Dick Wolf productions usually move quickly, so it’s likely the new season will arrive around a year after the first – potentially as early as February 2027.
The show started being developed in January 2025, but several changes delayed its release. Now that those issues are resolved, a second season should be ready much faster.
What CIA Season 2’s Story Could Be
If the second season of CIA is similar to the first, viewers can anticipate around 12 or more episodes featuring case-by-case investigations. Bill and Colin will likely continue to solve mysteries by using both traditional and unconventional methods, beating others to the solution. It’s currently unknown if characters from FBI will play a larger or smaller role this season.
The show CIA has started revealing details about Bill and Colin’s backgrounds, suggesting we’ll learn even more about their pasts. Season 2 of CIA will also likely delve deeper into the developing friendship between them.
