Jake Fendley, the lawyer representing streamer Chud the Builder, has stated that his office has received a lot of harassment since agreeing to represent him.
Dalton Eatherly, known online as Chud the Builder, is scheduled to appear in court again on May 21st. He’s been charged with attempted murder after a shooting that occurred outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee on May 13, 2026.
The streamer is being held in jail because his bail has been set at $1.25 million, and he hasn’t paid it yet. He’ll remain in jail until a hearing is held in a few days to discuss his bond.
His controversial online content has caused significant backlash, and his lawyer reports receiving a high volume of harassment as a result.

Chud the Builder’s attorney “disappointed” by “hateful” responses to representing streamer
Clarksville, Tennessee attorney Jake Fendley, who specializes in criminal defense, stated on May 19th to People magazine that his office has been targeted with abusive phone calls and emails by people upset with Eatherly’s behavior.
He expressed disappointment that his firm was being labeled as racist, especially considering his long-standing commitment to serving a diverse clientele. He emphasized his dedication to all his clients, regardless of their race.
He explained that some individuals they’ve strongly supported are now opposing someone defending them, simply because that defender isn’t afraid to support an unpopular person.
A criminal defense lawyer’s job is to represent anyone accused of a crime, no matter who they are or what they’re accused of. It’s wrong to assume a lawyer supports their client’s actions – they simply ensure everyone gets a fair defense. Many good people work as criminal defense attorneys.

Fendley then shared a detailed story about his family’s longstanding commitment to supporting people of color in their community. He explained that his job is to advocate for everyone, no matter their background, beliefs, or any accusations they may face.
I will always defend anyone accused of a crime. I won’t be intimidated by challenges or public pressure. The Constitution guarantees everyone the right to a defense, and I will fight for the people of this country for as long as I am able, he stated.
Eatherly has been charged with four crimes: attempted murder, using a gun while committing a serious felony, aggravated assault, and putting someone in danger with a deadly weapon.
This happened after growing criticism of his live streams, which included hateful language directed at Black people and invitations for physical confrontation.
Eatherly’s bond hearing is set for May 21, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 26.
