A Chick-fil-A employee became an internet sensation after discovering nearly $10,000 in the restaurant’s restroom and initially refusing a reward for finding it.
Discovering lost money always presents a tricky decision: should you keep it, or try to return it to its owner? While returning the money might lead to a reward, it could be less than the amount you found.
On April 3rd, Jaydon Cintron was cleaning his Chick-fil-A restaurant in Kinston, North Carolina, when he unexpectedly found nearly $10,000 in two envelopes.
An 18-year-old discovered two envelopes – one from First Citizens Bank and another from Truist Bank – near a restroom. “I honestly thought, ‘This can’t be real,'” Cintron explained to WITN. He immediately turned the envelopes over to HR, stating, “Money isn’t valuable if you don’t have integrity.”

At first, Chick-fil-A employees and the police attempted to find the cash’s owner by reviewing security camera recordings, but they were unable to identify them.
After a while, someone offered the eighteen-year-old $500 for returning the money, but he was hesitant to accept a reward at first.
According to WITN, Cintron initially refused the man’s offer, but eventually accepted a reward after repeated insistence, feeling it was the right thing to do. He explained, “I did this because that’s what Jesus would do.”
According to John McPhaul, the Chick-fil-A owner, real leadership means doing what’s right even when no one is around. He praised Jaydon for demonstrating this quality and believes he deserves recognition for it.
This eighteen-year-old’s experience isn’t the only recent Chick-fil-A story to become popular online.
Several employees lost their jobs at a store after participating in the popular “bounce your chest” TikTok challenge.
