Man, the PC launch of Borderlands 4 was rough for a lot of us. We’ve been hitting the forums hard about performance issues, and thankfully, the developers just dropped a new patch on September 13th, 2025, hoping to fix things up. Hopefully it actually makes a difference!
The game’s launch on Steam saw thousands of negative user reviews complaining about low frame rates, stutters, and crashes, even on high‑end hardware. These issues dragged the game’s overall Steam user rating down to “Mixed”.
September 13 patch seeks stability boost
According to a recent blog post from Gearbox, the update released on September 13th was designed to make the game run more smoothly on a variety of PC setups.
To improve how the game runs, Gearbox and 2K have provided optimization tips for players with NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards. They recommend NVIDIA users keep their drivers current and adjust their graphics settings based on their GPU and screen resolution. Similar advice was given to AMD users.
Although the recent update hasn’t fixed every problem – some Steam users are still reporting performance issues – many people are cautiously optimistic that the game is now more stable.
Gearbox expressed their gratitude to players for their support and announced that they are continuing to improve the game. They are listening to player feedback and plan to share more information about future updates soon.
