The Oscars’ annual tribute to those lost usually features sad music and heartfelt songs. But this year, with so many people to remember, they took a different approach. Instead of a simple montage, Billy Crystal led an extended tribute to Rob and Michele Reiner, sharing stories about their early friendship and Rob’s career. Crystal explained that Rob often said it meant the world to him that his films resonated with audiences, and fondly remembered their collaborative spirit. As Crystal spoke, visibly moved, a curtain rose to reveal a line of actors who had starred in Reiner’s films, including Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Fred Savage, Meg Ryan, and many others. The emotional tribute concluded with the iconic score from The Princess Bride playing as the actors turned to honor Reiner one last time.
