Nintendo is expanding its Nintendo Switch Online library with a double feature! Instead of adding games from just one classic system, they’re releasing two titles each for both the NES and Game Boy. Players can now enjoy Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword Of Chaos from the NES, alongside Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters and Bionic Commando from the Game Boy.
Gamers fondly remember Rare’s Battletoads, a notoriously challenging beat-em-up originally released on NES in 1991. Now, with its first-ever appearance on Switch, many are excited for a rematch.

This latest game update includes sequels to two classic titles already available through Nintendo Switch Online. Fans can now enjoy Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, the second game in the original NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy (the first is already available). Plus, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters for Game Boy joins the service as a sequel to the original Kid Icarus, also found in the NES library.
I’m so excited Nintendo Switch Online added Bionic Commando for Game Boy today! It’s awesome to see this classic franchise finally make its way to the Switch. It’s cool to learn the game actually started as an arcade title, then came to NES, and then got reimagined for Game Boy – they even changed the setting to a futuristic one for the handheld version! A really neat piece of gaming history.
A Nintendo Switch Online subscription lets you play classic games from older consoles like the NES, SNES, and Game Boy, with new games added often. If you upgrade to the Expansion Pack, you also get access to games from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis. GameCube games are only available to Expansion Pack members who also own a Nintendo Switch 2.
Next year, Nintendo is adding support for its Virtual Boy system to the Expansion Pass, even though the original Virtual Boy wasn’t very successful. To play Virtual Boy games, users will need to buy a special accessory – they can choose between a detailed plastic replica or a cheaper cardboard version.
