An 81-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers fan is getting a lot of attention online because the team recently changed its policy and won’t accept his paper tickets – something he’s used for 50 years.

In recent years, many sports teams and leagues globally have been moving away from paper tickets. While this is convenient for many, some fans miss collecting traditional physical tickets and stubs instead of relying on digital options like phones or QR codes.

It’s also created difficulties for some, particularly older fans who aren’t comfortable with technology. For example, 81-year-old Errol Segal, a Los Angeles Dodgers fan, prefers not to use a smartphone.

LA Dodgers fan who still uses flip phone can’t use digital tickets

In an interview with NBC LA, Segal stated that the Dodgers had betrayed him and he anticipated needing to work more often than attend games.

Segal explained he received a notification stating he would no longer receive printed tickets, and pointed out that he uses a flip phone which doesn’t support digital tickets.

Look, I’ve been a season ticket holder for FIFTY years, so this really stings. If I’d only had these tickets for a year or two, maybe five or ten, it wouldn’t be as bad, but fifty years! And to add insult to injury, they basically just dropped me. It’s just terrible, especially since I could actually buy paper tickets directly from the team without even using my season tickets in the first place!

The Dodgers haven’t responded to the fan’s disappointment yet, but many people online are supporting him and hoping the team will reconsider its decision.

One idea was to create special ticket books for long-time season ticket holders as a way to recognize and celebrate their years of support.

Fans expressed frustration that a longtime Dodgers supporter hadn’t yet received printed tickets. One commenter said it should only take a couple of minutes to print them, and it wasn’t a big ask.

Some people suggested the Dodgers fan should get with the times and replace his flip phone. One person commented that a friend or family member could probably help him upgrade.

Major League Baseball tickets aren’t the only ones getting attention right now; some $11,000 World Cup tickets are also causing a lot of online frustration.
