Okay, so *Baby Steps* is already a pretty tough walking simulator, but trust me, it has one final thing that’s going to seriously annoy some players – it’s a real rage-quit inducer!
Okay, so I heard about this crazy thing in Baby Steps. Apparently, if you skip a bunch of cutscenes, the game *rewards* you with this super long, 28-minute cutscene. It’s not exactly a reward for everyone though – it’s full of weird, self-aware jokes and the conversation just jumps around all over the place. Someone named Cuttyflame posted it on YouTube, and PC Gamer picked it up, so it’s making the rounds. It’s… something, that’s for sure!
Baby Steps, created by the team behind Ape Out and QWOP, doesn’t let you easily skip story scenes. If you try, you’ll have to play increasingly difficult minigames before you can continue.
According to Cuttyflame, if you skip about 30 cutscenes, the game ends with a surprisingly long and pointless final cutscene.
A hidden ending shows the main character, Nate (voiced by Cuzzillo), arriving at the cabin of Moose, a half-donkey, half-human character voiced by Foddy. Nate playfully acknowledges if the player has skipped cutscenes, leading to a lengthy and varied conversation.
Cuzzillo and Foddy chatted about everything from their excitement for Naughty Dog’s upcoming game to their fondness for fictional clowns, playfully teasing those who often skip cutscenes and suggesting they might do the same.
I’ve always wondered about those cutscenes in interactive games, and this long one feels different. It’s almost like the creators, Cuzzillo and Foddy, are playfully showing off their voice acting and gently teasing us for skipping it – but it’s all meant to be good-natured, I think!
Baby Steps is currently playable on PlayStation 5 and PC, and it’s also confirmed to work well on the Steam Deck. You might want to pay attention to the cutscenes, as they’re worth watching!
