It looks like Marvel fans haven’t seen the last of Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man.
Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, was a central figure in the early years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in many films throughout The Infinity Saga. Since his character’s death in Avengers: Endgame (2019), however, he hasn’t appeared in live-action MCU films, though he has made a few appearances in animated series without Robert Downey Jr. providing the voice.
Rumors have been circulating since January that Robert Downey Jr. might reprise his role as Iron Man in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ movie, possibly as a version of the character from another reality. In February, a reliable source, MAJESTIC_ucm, reported that the film would include a battle between Iron Man and Doctor Doom. Another source, MyTimetoShineHello, recently confirmed this on X (formerly Twitter), but with one significant difference in their information.
Avengers: Secret Wars may also give fans Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom
A post on X by MyTimeToShineHello claims Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man will battle his own Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers Secret Wars. However, this information hasn’t been officially confirmed. It’s currently unknown if both Doomsday and Secret Wars will include a fight between these characters, or if the source may have mixed up which movie will feature this highly anticipated matchup.
The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, are directing both the Doomsday and Secret Wars movies. While specific plot details are still secret, Doomsday will take place 14 months after the events of Thunderbolts, overlapping with what happens in the post-credits scene of that film.
Excitement is building for the upcoming Avengers movie, “Doomsday,” which will be the first time we see the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men all together in one film. A large cast of stars is confirmed to appear, including Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, James Marsden, and Channing Tatum. While not officially confirmed yet, fans also anticipate seeing Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Brie Larson in the sequel.
The next two major Marvel movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, are planned for release on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.
