Edia announced that the ‘Aretha Collection 1993-1995‘ will be released in Japan on July 30th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. This collection includes all three games from the Aretha series that originally came out for the Super Nintendo (SNES).
Just to quickly recap, the Aretha series consisted of six role-playing games (RPGs) created by Japan Art Media and published by Yanoman each year from 1990 to 1995. The first three games were released for the Game Boy between 1990 and 1992. The name ‘Aretha’ refers to the kingdom where the majority of the games are set.
Edia announced they’re also planning a physical Limited Edition of the game, which will include extra goodies alongside the game itself.
- Original Soundtrack CD (Unannounced Demo Version)
- Large Acrylic Stand
- Illustration Pamphlet
- 300-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle

Below, you’ll find translations detailing each highlighted title. Currently, this collection is only planned for release in Japan and is available in Japanese only.
Aretha the Super Famicom

Aretha the Super Famicom – released on 26 November 1993
Set after the Game Boy games, this story follows Ariel, a relaxed and gentle protagonist. Players praised the game’s controls when it was first released, and it’s easy to figure out what you need to do next. Battles are unique too – you’ll have to defeat enemies approaching from all four sides.
Aretha II: Ariel no Fushigi na Tabi (Ariel’s Mysterious Journey) – released on 2 December 1994
This game is the follow-up to Aretha for the Super Famicom. It keeps the original’s interesting battle system, but many other parts of the gameplay have been improved. A new feature lets you combine the remains of defeated monsters to craft new equipment.
Rejoice: Aretha Oukoku no Kanata (Beyond the Aretha Kingdom) – released on 21 April 1995
This game marked the series’ first foray into action RPGs, and its main feature was the ability for two players to play together at the same time. While building on elements from the Game Boy games, it differed significantly from the first two Super Famicom titles. It still featured many familiar characters, and the game’s music was very well-received by players.
