Andrew Garfield is continuing to state he won’t appear in the upcoming Spider-Man film. Despite new fan theories sparked by the Marvel Studios trailer, Garfield describes the speculation as wildly inaccurate.
The main idea behind this theory is that Marvel intentionally hid one or two characters in a specific scene, likely to keep their involvement in the movie a secret. They’ve done this before, like with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in the trailers for Spider-Man: No Way Home. One possibility is that one of the characters they’re hiding is Garfield playing a third version of Peter Parker.
When Capital FM played the trailer for Garfield and discussed fan theories, Garfield seemed confused. He said, “Honestly, that seems like a stretch. What do you mean when you say there’s room for more characters?”
Honestly, I’m blown away by how much empty space people are finding beneath Spider-Man in the frames! It’s like everyone’s realizing all the potential for more characters to be added – there seems to be room for so many! The lengths some fans are going to, meticulously analyzing every inch of the film… it’s a bit wild, honestly. It feels like a full-blown investigation into something that’s probably just a quirk of the filmmaking process, and it’s all incredibly over the top!
He finished by saying, “I never said I wasn’t involved, did I?” It’s unlikely that comment will improve things.
Will Spider-Man Fans Ever Believe Andrew Garfield Again?
The main issue is that Garfield isn’t seen as trustworthy. He kept details about his involvement in the movie hidden, and even denied being in it until the premiere. This makes it difficult for fans to believe anything he says now, especially after rumors had already started circulating.
To be honest, it was a really stressful experience, but surprisingly, I also enjoyed it. It felt like a huge version of the game Werewolf, where I was interacting with journalists and everyone was trying to figure things out – it was actually a lot of fun. Still, there were times when I really struggled with the deception. I don’t naturally like to lie, and I’m not very good at it, so I tried to think of it as just a game. I also focused on pretending I was simply a fan of the character, which wasn’t difficult.
Could Andrew Garfield Actually Be In Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
The big question now is whether Garfield is being dishonest again. He’s done it before, so fans are hesitant to fully trust him, but this situation doesn’t seem as suspicious as previous ones.
As a huge Spider-Man fan, I felt like No Way Home really wrapped up everything Tom Holland’s Spider-Man had been building towards, and it felt like a celebration of all the Spider-Man movies we’d gotten up to that point. Seeing him interact with the Avengers was amazing, and bringing in Doctor Strange opened the door to some truly incredible moments and possibilities.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks a fresh beginning for the character. No one remembers Spider-Man – not the Avengers, and not even his friends. This leaves Peter feeling incredibly isolated. Introducing the multiverse to this story, which feels more intimate and realistic than previous Marvel Spider-Man films, could disrupt the film’s central themes and overall mood.
Perhaps director Destin Daniel Cretton has figured out how to include Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in the next film. Could Peter Parker begin to repair his relationships with the help of another version of himself?
Fans don’t have to wait long to find out. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31.
