A Bitcoin owner is getting a lot of attention online after successfully recovering about $400,000 worth of Bitcoin from a wallet that had been inaccessible for over ten years. They were able to do this with the help of the AI chatbot Claude, created by Anthropic.
On May 13th, a user named Cprkrn posted on X about a remarkable crypto recovery. They said the AI assistant Claude helped them finally get back 5 Bitcoin after trying for years.
He excitedly shared in a popular online post that Claude had successfully completed a challenging task, expressing his gratitude to Anthropic and its CEO, Dario Amodei.
As of today, Bitcoin is valued at approximately $79,600, meaning the recovery of 5 Bitcoins is worth around $398,000.
Wow! Claude just solved this problem, and I’m incredibly grateful to the team at Anthropic, especially Dario Amodei! I’m so impressed, I’m even considering naming my child after him!

Man uses Claude to recover $400K worth of lost Bitcoin
The user explained in the discussion that their crypto wallet had been inaccessible since their college years. They originally purchased the cryptocurrency when each coin was worth about $250, but they lost access after changing the wallet password while under the influence.
The password, as later revealed in the post, was: “lol420fuckthePOLICE!*:)”
The user explained he’d spent years trying to get his money back, saying he’d tested countless password combinations – trillions, in fact. He finally had success, though, after uploading files from his old college computer to the Claude AI system.
Instead of trying to guess the password, Claude assisted in searching through old files and discovered an earlier wallet.dat file from before the password was changed. The user also remembered an old recovery phrase, which successfully unlocked the wallet after the correct file was located.
Man, I was seriously locked out! I must have tried a million passwords, it was ridiculous. Then, a few weeks ago, I remembered this old hint I used to use, and it turned out to be the password from before I changed it. I thought I was totally screwed! As a last resort, I fed everything from my old college laptop into Claude, and it actually found an old wallet file that the hint unlocked! Seriously, I was so relieved.

BTCRecover is a tool that helps people get back into their cryptocurrency wallets when they’ve forgotten the complete password or seed phrase, but remember most of it. It works by letting users try different combinations, and it supports recovering wallets like Bitcoin Core, as well as others.
The news quickly traveled throughout the cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence communities. However, it became clear that Claude didn’t compromise Bitcoin’s security. Instead, it assisted the user in finding old files, figuring out the source of the problem, and regaining access to their wallet using legitimate information.
If you have old hard drives stored away, this is a good reminder that the files on them might be more valuable than you realize.
Cprkrn even mentioned he’s considering naming his child after Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic – a fitting gesture, given he recently earned around $400,000.
