The show has unexpectedly become ABC’s biggest hit and a ratings success on network television. Just a month after the season finale, ABC is already planning for its next season.
ABC has announced that Season 3 of High Potential will premiere in early 2027, breaking the show’s usual fall release schedule. The first season premiered on September 17, 2024, and the second season followed on September 16, 2025.
High Potential Season 3’s Move Makes Sense
Ari Goldman, a senior vice president at ABC, said the 2026-2027 TV season will kick off with several major events in the first few months. These include the College Football Playoff championship, the Super Bowl, and big awards shows like the Grammys and the Oscars.
According to Goldman, this is an incredibly impressive lineup of live events for television. He believes it will reach a very large audience.
Moving the release of High Potential to winter instead of fall has a major benefit: it avoids the show going on hiatus. Past seasons have been interrupted by breaks, but Season 3 is expected to air with very few interruptions.
According to Goldman, the show High Potential experienced several interruptions during its first two seasons. The first season had a limited number of episodes, while the second season was affected by the scheduling of Dancing With the Stars and the start of holiday programming, which caused a somewhat disjointed broadcast schedule.
The Vice President explained they were excited to relaunch the program with increased focus. They also mentioned breaks might be a little shorter, but they’re working hard to ensure viewers have a reliable and consistent experience.
More ABC Titles Undergo Release Changes in the 2026-2027 Season
As a TV fan, I’m not surprised to hear that High Potential isn’t the only show getting a schedule adjustment. It looks like The Golden Bachelorette and Scrubs are both moving to the fall after originally being planned for mid-season. R.J. Decker will air on Tuesdays after Dancing With the Stars, and Scrubs will stay put on Wednesdays, airing alongside Abbott Elementary at 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. respectively. Plus, Celebrity Jeopardy! is getting a fall slot on Wednesdays, and you can catch Celebrity Wheel of Fortune on Fridays. Good news for fans of the 911 franchise and Grey’s Anatomy though – they’ll continue airing on Thursdays, starting at 8:00 p.m., just like always.
Several shows will be back for mid-season premieres, including High Potential, The Rookie, and Shifting Gears. Plus, The Rookie‘s new spinoff series is scheduled to launch in 2027.
According to ABC’s latest ratings, High Potential was their most-watched show in 2026, averaging 16.14 million viewers over 35 days across all platforms. However, it trailed behind several other popular series, including His & Hers on Netflix, Marshals on CBS, Landman on Paramount+, Bridgerton on Netflix, and Tracker on CBS. These figures are for broadcast viewing in 2025.
High Potential is streaming on Hulu. Season 3 will premiere on ABC and Hulu in early 2027.
