Stars may be listening as A Court of Thorns and Roses may have hope for the future.
I’m absolutely obsessed with the A Court of Thorns and Roses series! There are currently six books – and I’ve heard rumors of more to come! – and each one instantly shoots to the top of the bestseller lists. It all starts with Feyre Archeron, a human huntress who gets pulled into the magical world of Prythian after accidentally killing a faerie. Suddenly, she’s caught up in this incredibly intense world of fae politics, huge wars, and a romance that just might change everything. It’s a wild ride, and I can’t get enough!
According to a report from Puck News, Sarah J. Maas is looking for a new studio to adapt her popular novels now that Hulu’s rights have expired. This news follows the announcement that an adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing is in development at Amazon, with Michael B. Jordan producing and starring. While it’s unknown which studio Maas will target, Hulu’s failure to move forward with her series, even with Outlander‘s Ron Moore as showrunner, doesn’t bode well for the future of the beloved romantasy books.
There were reports that Hulu underestimated the costs of bringing the A Court of Thorns and Roses series to life, likely because of the extensive computer-generated imagery needed for its fantasy setting. Despite this, fans still have reason to be optimistic, as we’re seeing more and more popular book series adapted for television, like Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty and Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton. However, successful adaptations aren’t guaranteed – Netflix cancelled its fantasy series Shadow & Bone, based on Leigh Bardugo’s books, after just two seasons.
Even so, fans continue to eagerly anticipate adaptations of beloved books, particularly those from Sarah J. Maas’s popular series. Two more novels are on the way: the sixth, releasing October 27th, and the seventh, coming January 12, 2027. While Maas hasn’t shared any details about the new stories, many fans believe they will center around Feyre’s sister, Elain.
Given Amazon’s success with fantasy adaptations like The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time – and with a third season of Rings of Power already planned – they seem like the most promising option to bring Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses to the screen. With the recent announcement that Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing is also being adapted by Amazon, the possibility of ACOTAR finding a home there is even more likely.
