Although fans are currently excited about Landman, CBS has announced it will be bringing more of the Yellowstone universe to network television in 2026 with a new spinoff. The network recently updated its spring schedule to confirm the premiere date for the first season of this new Yellowstone series, which focuses on Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton. It will air on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and led by showrunner Spencer Hudnut (known for SEAL Team), the new series Y: Marshals will air on CBS after 60 Minutes and before popular shows Tracker and Watson. This marks the first Taylor Sheridan production not exclusively available on Paramount+, strengthening CBS’s Sunday night programming.
Several original cast members are returning for the new Yellowstone series, including Gil Birmingham (as Thomas Rainwater), Mo Brings Plenty (as Mo), and Brecken Merrill (as Tate). They’ll be joined by new actors Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Logan Marshall-Green. The show follows Kayce Dutton, a former Navy SEAL and rancher, as he joins a team of U.S. Marshals tasked with protecting Montana.
The new series, Y: Marshals, is expected to attract a large audience, building on the success of Yellowstone. While Yellowstone‘s critical reception varied over its five seasons – starting with a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, peaking at 100%, and ending at 79% – creator Taylor Sheridan is continuing to expand the Yellowstone universe. Y: Marshals is one of several planned spin-offs that will follow the Dutton family’s story.
Taylor Sheridan Has a Hold on the Modern Western

Yellowstone became popular when viewers were starting to resist television that focused heavily on social issues. Taylor Sheridan’s drama, with its focus on ranch life and a style reminiscent of classic Westerns, found a large audience on streaming services.
Taylor Sheridan has created several shows, including Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone, and the action series Lioness featuring Zoe Saldana, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman. However, Yellowstone remains his most important work. The story is expanding with prequel series 1888 and 1923, and a sequel focusing on Beth and Rip is also planned, currently titled Dutton Ranch. Another prequel, The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and set in 1944, is in development along with other projects. Sheridan doesn’t work on these shows alone; he oversees them as an executive producer, but others handle the writing and directing. This approach has received some criticism in his more recent releases.
It appears Y: Marshals will be the series where J. Sheridan has the least direct creative involvement, primarily serving as an executive producer. We’ll quickly find out how this affects the show, likely in March 2026, when viewers will share their opinions on how it compares to the rest of the Yellowstone universe.
