There’s a chance we could see even more Nintendo heroes in a future Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Super Mario Bros. Movie showed that the filmmakers are willing to expand beyond the usual Mario and Luigi stories. They surprised audiences by including Donkey Kong and even visiting his jungle home, which allowed characters like Diddy Kong and Cranky Kong to make an appearance – opening the door for other Nintendo favorites in future films.
Considering everything that could happen, the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel has a lot of potential characters who might appear. The movie is already bringing back most of the original cast, and it’s also adding new characters like Rosalina, Bowser Jr., and likely Yoshi.
Despite its flaws, The Super Mario Bros. Movie includes so many Easter eggs, characters, and locations that it suggests exciting future installments. The film’s world opens up a lot of possibilities, like the potential for appearances from other famous video game heroes and their friends.
Mario Could Meet Star Fox In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Mario will encounter Fox McCloud, the hero of Nintendo’s Star Fox video game series. Fox leads a team of animal companions, including Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare.
Fox McCloud and his team, Star Fox, fly through space in their ship, the Arwing, completing risky missions for hire. Now that Mario and Luigi are heading into space themselves, it’s possible we might see Star Fox make an appearance in the movie.
It feels natural for Fox McCloud and his team to exist in the same universe as Mario. They’re already linked through appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie hinted at a vast world, suggesting plenty of room for other characters and adventures.
The world of Star Fox could easily be incorporated into the story of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. If Bowser and Bowser Jr. cause trouble in space, Fox McCloud and his team could arrive at one of the movie’s galactic locations to help.
The team could appear briefly in the movie, perhaps with a quick scene or in a short clip after the credits. A more impactful possibility, though, is that Star Fox helps out during the final showdown.
Fox McCloud Could Be A Part Of Nintendo’s Plan For More Movies
Fox McCloud’s appearance hints at Nintendo’s bigger plan to create a whole series of movies based on their popular video games. Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, projects like The Legend of Zelda and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are likely just the beginning, and Nintendo is probably developing even more adaptations.
Several popular Nintendo franchises could be adapted into films, including Donkey Kong Country, Metroid, and Star Fox. A Star Fox movie, likely an animated space adventure, would be a unique addition to the film lineup, offering something different from The Legend of Zelda and the Super Mario movies, making it a potentially attractive project.
As much as I love the series, it just doesn’t have the same household name recognition as Nintendo giants like Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, or Pokémon. Because of that, I think it would be smart for Nintendo to use one of its bigger, more hyped projects to help get some buzz going for their other films – kind of like how Marvel Studios builds up interest in lesser-known corners of the MCU.
A great way to revive interest in Star Fox would be to include Fox McCloud and his team in a popular movie where they’d fit right in – like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This could then generate excitement for a potential animated Star Fox film, especially if fans enjoy seeing a crossover between the franchises.
As a huge fan of Super Smash Bros., I’ve always loved that Fox McCloud was one of the very first characters – he’s been a staple ever since! Everyone talks about Super Smash Bros. being like Nintendo’s version of The Avengers, and I really think they’re setting that up. So, if Fox shows up in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, that would be huge. It would confirm that characters from Star Fox and the Mario universe actually share the same world, which is something I’ve been hoping to see for ages!
