Osgood Perkins has quickly become a notable horror director, known for creating films that are both mysterious and captivating. He first gained attention with his 2024 film, Longlegs, where the studio, Neon, built anticipation by keeping details under wraps and hinting at a truly frightening experience. Perkins has continued this approach with two more films, the latest being Keeper, which comes out this weekend. The marketing for Keeper has been similarly secretive, but now that reviews are in on Rotten Tomatoes, we know how critics reacted to his newest movie.
As of today, Osgood Perkins’ new film, Keeper, has a ‘Fresh’ rating of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 26 reviews and with more still coming in. While this suggests a generally positive reception, it’s not Perkins’ lowest-rated film – his 2016 movie I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House received a 59% ‘Rotten’ score. The director has been on a roll recently, with Longlegs earning an 86% rating and The Monkey’s receiving a 77% ‘Fresh’ score.
Reviews for the film have been generally positive. While The Hollywood Reporter found the story somewhat weak, they highlighted a strong performance by Tatiana Maslany. Britt Hayes from MovieWeb offered a thoughtful review, suggesting that whether viewers enjoy the film depends on if they feel the familiar story elements are used effectively. Most critics agree the movie is suspenseful and benefits from strong acting performances.
‘Keeper’ is Carried by its Lead Performances

Although Keeper hasn’t been as popular as Osgood Perkins’ previous films, The Monkey and Longlegs, it’s remarkable that he continues to direct movies so consistently. His latest project, The Young People, is currently being filmed and stars Lola Tung and Nico Parker, with Nicole Kidman recently joining the cast. Even with Keeper about to hit theaters—and still largely under wraps—Perkins is already working on another horror film, continuing to innovate within the genre.
Okay, so I’m really intrigued by Osgood Perkins’ new film, Keeper. It’s a lean 1 hour and 39 minutes, which I always appreciate – he doesn’t mess around. The early reviews are a bit all over the place, but everyone seems to agree that Tatiana Maslany, who had a smaller part in his last movie The Monkey, is fantastic. As a fan of Perkins’ work, that’s enough to get me in the theater. Even if Keeper isn’t quite as strong as some of his other stuff, it sounds different enough that I want to support original horror when I can.
