First 7 minutes of Dune 3 reveals 17 year time-jump

At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. showed the first seven minutes of Dune 3, revealing that the film jumps forward 17 years after the events of the second movie. The footage also introduces a harsher, more formidable Emperor Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet.

Dune 3 concludes Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious sci-fi saga, based on the second book in Frank Herbert’s series, Dune Messiah. The film explores the darker side of Paul Atreides, revealing that his rise to power isn’t a triumph, but instead leads to widespread conflict and oppression across the galaxy.

The initial trailer for the next movie hinted at this when a shaved-headed Timothée Chalamet spoke to a large group of Fremen soldiers, amidst a battle between armies, and introduced new characters who are planning to take Paul off the throne.

At CinemaCon, the studio previewed the first seven minutes of Dune 3, and some viewers compared the action to ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ but with laser weapons.

Dune 3 has a 17 year time-jump into Paul’s war on the galaxy

Variety reports that the beginning of Dune 3 jumps forward 17 years after the events of the second film. Paul has become Emperor, taking power from Emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken), and his actions have sparked a widespread and violent holy war led by the Fremen. The film will showcase the devastating consequences of this conflict.

Okay, so I just read about how Dune 3 might start. Apparently, it opens with a massive battle – the Fremen are fighting someone on this super rainy planet. We’re talking about Paul’s troops storming a beach, getting ambushed by a huge gun, and then this massive energy beam just obliterates the building they were using for cover. One guy over at Gizmodo even said it’s like ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ but with lasers! Sounds intense, right?

The video highlighted the reappearance of Duncan Idaho, played by Jason Momoa, who has been cloned. He points out how much Paul has changed since the first movie, telling him, “You’ve conquered the galaxy and destroyed countless worlds. I don’t think there’s any turning back for you now.”

Director Denis Villeneuve introduced the first footage from Dune 3 and explained he didn’t want to simply repeat what he’d done in the previous films. “I wanted to create something fresh,” he said, describing the new installment as having “more action, a faster pace, and deeper emotional impact.”
