The first details are emerging for Christopher Nolan’s new fantasy film, The Odyssey. The marketing campaign has begun with a new visual that includes a recognizable image and a first look at the movie’s main character, based on the classic story.
Empire Magazine recently shared new photos from Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey. The images show Matt Damon as Odysseus standing before the Trojan Horse as it arrives in Troy. While the photos don’t reveal any new plot details, they highlight that Damon is the central figure in this star-studded adaptation of Homer’s epic poem. He plays Odysseus, the legendary hero whose journey home to Ithaca takes ten years. You can see the new images below.
Despite efforts to maintain secrecy around Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, glimpses of the large-scale production have emerged. The historical epic was filmed on location using IMAX cameras, and Nolan prioritized practical effects to bring the story’s fantastical elements to life. In a recent interview with Empire, Nolan shared that the production used “over two million feet of film” and even ventured out to sea to authentically capture the dangerous voyage of Odysseus and his crew during the Trojan War.
We’ve been filming for the past four months, getting the actors who play Odysseus’ crew out on the actual ocean, in the locations the story takes place. The sea is incredibly powerful – sometimes vast and frightening, other times beautiful and calm, depending on the weather. We wanted to really show how difficult those ancient voyages would have been, and the courage it took to sail into the unknown, with no maps or charts.
