It’s N7 Day, BioWare’s yearly celebration of the Mass Effect games! To celebrate, the studio shared a quick update on both the next Mass Effect game and the upcoming TV series. However, they want to manage expectations – don’t expect a full reveal just yet, as details are still limited.
According to executive producer Michael Gamble, a new Mass Effect game is still being made, and both EA and BioWare plan to continue creating stories within that world. He also dismissed recent rumors about BioWare being closed or sold, which arose following EA’s $55 billion acquisition by a group of investors led by Saudi Arabia.
“Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next,” he said.
Okay, so there’s a lot of talk that if EA gets sold for $55 billion, the new owners might shut down or sell BioWare. Apparently, Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t sell as well as EA hoped, which isn’t great for the studio. Honestly, I’m worried about what happens next. We don’t know what the new owners will do, or how EA will even pay off the $20 billion in debt from the sale. It’s a really uncertain time, and that’s always a bad sign for us as gamers.
Gamble didn’t directly respond to the rumors, but stated that the BioWare team is completely focused on developing Mass Effect.
We still have a lot of work ahead of us – expanding the game world, adding new features, and developing character relationships. We’re really enthusiastic about what we’re creating, and we guarantee it will be a lot of fun when we’re ready to share it with you.
Gamble acknowledged that people are eager for updates and expressed his gratitude for their patience while the studio prepares to reveal more information.
Update on Mass Effect TV show
As a huge Mass Effect fan, I was so excited to hear an update on the Amazon TV series from Gamble! He said things are really moving forward with the writers room – they’re making great progress. Apparently, they’ve already figured out a lot about how the show will tie into everything we already know from the games, and how it all fits with the new Mass Effect game that’s in development. It’s awesome to hear it’s all being thought through so carefully!
The new show will tell a fresh story set within the established timeline, taking place after the events of the original trilogy. It won’t revisit Commander Shepard’s adventures—that story belongs to you, the player.
The Mass Effect TV show was first announced in 2021, meaning it’s been in development for quite a while. A recent update in November 2024 confirmed the series is actively being made. Daniel Casey, known for his work on Fast & Furious 9, is writing and executive producing the show, with Gamble also serving as an executive producer.
Ari Arad, known for his work on projects like Iron Man and Uncharted, is also producing the Mass Effect series. While details about the story haven’t been released yet, the show will likely center around Commander Shepard’s adventures in space, as seen in the games. A Mass Effect movie was considered in the past, but it didn’t move forward.
Filming for the Mass Effect TV show could begin in 2026.
“I want you to see stuff”
Gamble acknowledged that BioWare’s recent N7 Day post lacked substantial updates. He explained that they aren’t ready to share more details about the next Mass Effect game just yet.
I understand why people are upset we didn’t share a lot of Mass Effect news on N7 Day – I’m a fan myself and want to show you all what we’ve been working on! It’s just not the right time yet. It has been a while since the announcement, and we’ve been busy, but we are now fully focused on Mass Effect.
