The most memorable Saturday Night Live hosts fully embrace the show’s humor, and Margot Robbie seems to have been one of them. Leslie Jones highlighted this, praising Robbie for enthusiastically participating in even the most outlandish sketches – the ones typically reserved for performers who don’t fit traditional beauty standards.
Leslie Jones shared on Vulture’s Good One Podcast that sketches on SNL were often pushed to future episodes because performers didn’t want to do them. This prompted her to recount a story about Margot Robbie agreeing to perform a sketch that other cast members, described as “pretty girls,” had passed on. The comedian then explained:
Margot, I’ll always have so much love for you, especially because of how you started at SNL. She came in with incredible confidence, like a true star. She was willing to do all the silly, over-the-top things that other actresses wouldn’t, and that was amazing.
It’s understandable that not every host wants to perform every sketch suggested to them. But it’s often the hosts who are willing to try anything that really shine. According to Jones, Margot Robbie was one of those hosts. She apparently went all-in on a sketch where she transformed into someone intentionally ‘ugly,’ as Jones recalled.
There was this hilarious sketch where she transformed into someone considered unattractive. No one really wanted to play that part, but when she did, I thought it was brilliant and really admired her for it.
Jones said she didn’t recall the sketch specifically, but remembered it included singing. She described Robbie Williams starting the performance dressed as someone attractive before changing into a character who appeared “really crazy” and then “really ugly.”
Jones didn’t remember the sketch details exactly, but Entertainment Weekly reported it revolved around “The Librarian.” The sketch featured male students discussing a librarian that Bobby Moynihan’s character found attractive. As the sketch progressed, and Robbie’s character playfully messed with the boys by loosening the librarian’s hair, things took a bizarre turn. The librarian began to physically fall apart – losing her hair, removing teeth to reveal gaps, and displaying tattoos, including one of Haley Joel Osment. The sketch escalated with the librarian killing Cecily Strong’s character and culminating in a dance with a man holding a snake.
Let’s be honest, it’s not a pretty sight. However, it’s genuinely amusing, and that’s exactly what it’s meant to be, as you’ll see below.
Saturday Night Live isn’t about being nice; it’s about being funny. So, the show’s creator, Jones, was thrilled that the actress who played Tonya Harding was game for anything, as he explained:
It was so good. We were like, ‘Oh my god, I love her.’

As a huge fan of Saturday Night Live, I’m always looking for ways to catch up! I’ve discovered that Peacock is a great option. You can actually watch new episodes live on NBC or stream them on Peacock at 11:30 p.m. ET. Plus, Peacock lets you stream past seasons, which is awesome. They have plans starting at just $7.99 a month, or you can go for an annual subscription for $79.99. Definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan like me!
You can enjoy the full episode featuring Robbie, which originally aired as Season 42, Episode 1, by subscribing to Peacock.
Given the actress’s history of taking on challenging and unconventional roles, it’s not surprising she was game for anything on Saturday Night Live. What is surprising is that she hasn’t hosted the show again – and I think she really should.
This performer was on the show back in 2016. Even though she’s had recent success with critically acclaimed films like Barbie, she hasn’t returned to host Saturday Night Live. Perhaps her upcoming 2026 movie, Wuthering Heights, releasing in February, will bring her back. The cast would definitely welcome someone so game for anything.
Here’s hoping the hosts of Saturday Night Live Season 51 are prepared to fully embrace the show’s spirit! So far, they’ve all been up to the task, and this week, Nikki Glaser will take on the challenge, which I’m sure she’ll do wonderfully. The following week, on November 15th, Glen Powell will host, and given his past work, he’s sure to give it his all as well. Keep watching, because you never know which host will truly go the extra mile for their episode of the NBC sketch show.
