The sixth series of All Creatures Great & Small will be available on DVD and digitally from December 1st, 2025. A complete box set of series 1 through 6 will also be released by Acorn Media International, bringing the heartwarming stories back to your home. The Christmas special, All God’s Creatures, is included in both releases.
Praised by The Guardian as ‘the comforting TV we all need’ and by the Daily Mail as ‘the most charming drama on TV,’ this delightful series is based on the beloved books and true story of James Herriot (born James Alfred Wight), a Yorkshire veterinarian and author.
This heartwarming series has become a national favorite, achieving great success for Channel 5 and winning over viewers worldwide.
The latest installment of the series is set at the close of World War II. With the war in Europe over, peace seems within reach. However, James (played by Nicholas Ralph, known for The Most Reluctant Convert) is busier than ever, balancing his duties as a veterinarian with the demands of family life alongside Helen (Rachel Shenton, from Hollyoaks and White Gold) and the particularly difficult Siegfried (Samuel West, of Slow Horses and Darkest Hour).
Tristan, now older and more experienced (played by Callum Woodhouse, known from The Durrells), returns to Darrowby and has to get used to life back home. At the same time, Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley, from Deadwater Fell and In Bruges) is determined to rebuild community and bring peace back to the veterinary practice. As everyone reconnects at Skeldale House, they search for a new sense of purpose as life begins to improve and the future looks promising.
The story starts in 1937 when James Herriot, a fresh veterinary graduate, arrives in a Yorkshire town for his first job. He works alongside Siegfried Farnon, a vet known for being both grumpy and good-hearted. James soon realizes that being a vet isn’t just about animals—it’s also about the people who love them. He finds a fulfilling, yet challenging, life filled with lessons and plenty of animals and people to care for.
In the second season, after Helen Alderson is left heartbroken at the altar by Hugh Hulton (played by Matthew Lewis, known from Harry Potter and Murder Before Evensong), she and James begin to explore their romantic feelings for each other.
In the third installment, James and Helen get married, and the Skeldale family starts to think about its future in Darrowby and the wider world as World War II approaches.
During the fourth season, Helen and Mrs. Hall help James and Siegfried manage the veterinary practice while Tristan is away serving in the army. They receive assistance from two new characters: Miss Harbottle, a capable bookkeeper played by Neve McIntosh (known from Shetland), and Richard Carmody, an eager veterinary student portrayed by James Anthony-Rose (of Masters of the Air).
The fifth season introduces baby Jimmy to the Skeldale House family, and everyone is learning to adjust to life with a new little one. Helen is navigating the challenges of motherhood while James is stationed at RAF Abingdon. Despite missing each other – with a baby to care for and James’s duties with the war effort – they both remain occupied and busy.
This Christmas, treat yourself to the heartwarming series All Creatures Great & Small. With beautiful landscapes, charming characters, and a wonderful story, it’s the perfect escape and a cozy way to brighten up the winter season.
