The Fallout series famously states that “war never changes,” and while that may feel true, the causes of conflict are actually incredibly varied – ranging from simple mistakes to outright aggression. Despite advancements in technology, the core motivations for war – wealth and control – remain constant. Europa Universalis V attempts to simulate all these potential reasons for war, known as ‘casus belli,’ but one in particular – ‘Claim Throne’ – seems to be malfunctioning. Let’s take a closer look at the issue and why this specific trigger isn’t working as intended.
Issues with Claim Throne Casus Belli in Europa Universalis 5
Europa Universalis 5 isn’t shaping up to be a typical sequel; developers promised a blend of the most popular features from all of Paradox’s strategy games. Achieving that ambition means a lot of intricate systems, which can unfortunately lead to technical problems like crashes and in-game bugs. It appears there’s currently an issue with the ‘Claim Throne’ war justification, specifically when triggered by in-game events. Let’s take a look at what’s happening.
Players are reporting a bug with the ‘Claim Throne CB’ reward earned from events. After completing these events and reaching the peace negotiation stage, the option to form a union is missing. Instead, players are only able to negotiate a standard peace deal. This is a problem because the goal of initiating the conflict was to gain regional power through forming a union.
Currently, there’s no way to fix this issue except to wait for Paradox to release an update. The developers are aware of the problem with the ‘Claim Throne’ option and are already working on a solution, so a fix should be available soon.
If you want to keep up with everything happening in the game and all the latest updates, I recommend joining the official EU5 Discord server or following them on X (formerly Twitter). Also, don’t forget you can track development right through Steam! Good luck building your empire!
