Eight Battlefield games are currently available on Steam, though one has been taken off sale. The newest release, Battlefield 6, initially received positive feedback for going back to the series’ original style. However, it’s now become the second lowest-rated game in the entire Battlefield series. Several factors have contributed to this decline in player satisfaction.
Battlefield series ratings on Steam
A Reddit user named mandbeyn posted a graphic showing Steam ratings for every game in the Battlefield series. You can view it below. It’s important to remember that most of these games weren’t available on Steam at their initial launch, with Bad Company 2, BF2042, and BF6 being exceptions.
Battlefield 2042 is the only game performing worse than the unreleased Battlefield 6, which isn’t unexpected given the strong negative reaction to the previous installment. Even though it only has a 42% positive rating currently, that’s actually an improvement – it was down to just 24% on Steam right after launch. EA DICE has made improvements over time, but many players still aren’t happy with the game.
It’s no surprise that the top three games are where they are. Battlefield 1 delivered the large-scale, immersive battles players wanted. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 4 are now considered classics, fondly remembered by many. Bad Company 2 might have ranked higher if it hadn’t been removed from digital stores and had its online servers shut down.
It might be surprising, but Battlefield 3 actually ranked lower than Battlefield 5. Battlefield 5 received a lot of criticism before and after its release, particularly for its unique take on World War II and, currently, for a significant cheating problem. One Reddit user suggested a reason for Battlefield 3’s lower ranking.
The mixed reviews for Battlefield 3 on Steam might be due to problems with EA’s game launcher and PunkBuster, which many players find difficult to fix.

Why is Battlefield 6 receiving mixed reviews?
While many gamers enjoy the latest Battlefield game, reviews on Steam are currently mixed. One reason is the negative response to the RedSec module, but it’s important to note that this module is separate from the main game. Many players feel this highlights how unreliable Steam reviews can sometimes be.
I’ve seen the criticism about Redsec, but it highlights how unfair review bombing can be. It’s actually a good game.
Many players are unhappy with the new content in the first season, and this is reflected in negative reviews. Complaints focus on character skins that are too bright, an expensive battle pass, and a particularly disliked map. A large number of negative reviews from Chinese players also significantly impacted the game’s overall rating; without this “review bombing” of Battlefield 6, the game likely would have received a much better score.
EA DICE is actively working to address player concerns. They’ve already removed the most disliked character skins and reworked the challenge system that required players to engage with the RedSec program. It remains to be seen if these changes will improve how the game is received on Steam.
