Paramount Reportedly Has Blacklist Of Hollywood Stars

Paramount is undergoing significant changes, and reports suggest the studio has created a list of actors it won’t work with. Since David Ellison took charge of Paramount Skydance, there have been widespread job cuts, and a merger with Warner Bros. Discovery is being considered.

Variety reports that Paramount has created a list of actors they won’t hire due to concerns about antisemitism, xenophobia, or homophobia. The company has determined these individuals have demonstrated problematic views.

In September, Paramount was the first major film studio to publicly oppose an open letter that urged a boycott of Israeli film organizations accused of involvement in genocide and apartheid against Palestinians.

Many well-known actors, including Emma Stone, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, Joaquin Phoenix, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Tilda Swinton, Emma D’Arcy, and Elliot Page, signed the letter. It’s currently unknown if any of them are on the list of people Paramount is reportedly avoiding working with.

Paramount’s interest in the issue of Israel stems, in part, from the close relationship between Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Ellison is also a significant financial supporter of the Friends of the IDF.

Recent shifts in Paramount’s political standing are also linked to Larry Ellison’s friendship with Donald Trump. The Trump administration approved the merger between Paramount and Skydance, and President Trump has publicly acknowledged Larry and David Ellison’s support for him.

A significant change at Paramount was the unexpected departure of Taylor Sheridan, a highly successful television creator, after he signed a new, valuable agreement with NBCUniversal. Paramount+ currently streams several popular shows created by Sheridan, including Yellowstone, 1923, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and Lioness.

As a huge fan of Taylor Sheridan’s work, I was really disappointed to hear he’s leaving Paramount, even though his contract technically runs until 2028. It’s a big blow to them, honestly, and a fantastic win for NBCUniversal and Peacock. Apparently, things weren’t great between him and the new people in charge at Paramount even before the merger with Skydance, which explains a lot about why he’s moving on.

Despite recent challenges, Paramount+ still offers a lot to watch, and the company has seen some successes lately, like the creators of Stranger Things moving over from Netflix. However, issues like reported actor blacklisting and the departure of key figures create uncertainty about what’s next for Paramount.
