Following a TikTok video showing people buying up all the Pokémon trading cards at one store, Walmart is reportedly limiting customers to five packs or boxes of trading cards per shopping trip nationwide.
A recent internal memo from November 5th announced that the retailer will now limit purchases to 5 items in departments 7 and 82. These departments include Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and sports trading cards. The company states this change is to ensure fair access for all fans and collectors, and to create a safe and enjoyable shopping experience.

The update comes after many collectors expressed frustration with ‘scalpers‘ – people who buy up products in stores and then resell them online at much higher prices. A popular TikTok video, seen by millions, showed two people supposedly buying hundreds of Pokemon card tins. This sparked a discussion about whether stores should do more to stop this kind of hoarding and price gouging.
Mixed reactions from the community
Many collectors are happy about the new rule, calling it a welcome change and praising Walmart for taking action. However, some people are doubtful it will actually work. Concerns have been raised on social media about whether store employees will consistently enforce the limit, and if online bots will find ways around it by using many different accounts.

Honestly, most players seem pretty happy about this change. A lot of us have been saying it’ll help make those super-fast restocks a little fairer, since things usually sell out in minutes. It feels like it might actually give more people a chance to snag what they want.
