Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are now the second most popular Pokémon games of all time. They’ve sold more copies than Sword and Shield, but still haven’t reached the sales numbers of the very first Pokémon games, Red, Green, and Blue.
As of September 30, 2025, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet had sold over 27.61 million copies globally, according to Nintendo’s most recent financial report.
This means the newest games have sold more copies than Pokémon Sword and Shield, reaching 26.96 million. However, they still haven’t matched the sales of the very first Pokémon games – Red, Green, and Blue – which have sold a total of 31.38 million copies since 1998.
Comparison with other Pokemon games
Honestly, Scarlet and Violet had a really rough start. Everyone was complaining about glitches and the games just didn’t run smoothly at first. But, surprisingly, they ended up being HUGE! They actually became the fastest-selling Pokémon games ever, hitting 10 million copies sold in just the first three days. It’s crazy how well they did despite all the initial problems.
According to Serebii’s Joe Merrick, the recent sales of Pokemon Legends Z-A have been lower than other mainline games, but this is likely because it’s only been available for four days. Pokemon Legends Arceus, which came out in 2022, has sold 15 million copies in total.
Here’s the latest Pokémon game sales data. Scarlet and Violet (SV) sold almost half a million copies this past June-September, which is a solid performance for a game that’s been out for a while. The sales numbers for Pokémon Legends: Z-A only cover the first four days after release, and the next sales update will be available in February.

Even though it’s typical for Game Freak to wait before announcing new Pokémon games, they haven’t revealed what’s coming after Scarlet & Violet yet. If they follow their usual pattern, we can likely expect to hear about and maybe even play the next generation of games – Generation 10 – in 2026.
